Destination Innovation

Our interdisciplinary team worked to envision a solution that enhances the customer experience when shopping in a retail environment as well as traveling aboard an aircraft. We aimed to understanding the customer’s journey and what they would want out of their “dream” experience in the next 5-10 years.

Partnering with Kohl's Department Stores, Southwest Airlines, and Innovation in Milwaukee we were fortunate enough to gain insight into their companies approach to new technologies as well as background information on how they plan to reach out to their customers. We then boarded a plane to Silicon Valley, and while in flight, brainstormed a potential solution to pitch to our fellow passengers at 35,000 ft. Our final solution was presented at the 2015 Walk the Talk conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Our solution was supported by the knowledge we gained through our infield research, the consumer interviews we conducted, and the analysis of secondary resources.

Background

Innovation in Milwaukee has teamed up with Southwest Airlines and Kohl's Department stores on an exciting new program! 10 college students have been selected to travel on Southwest Airlines to California to visit the Kohl’s Department Stores Digital Center. En route, we will work with experienced mentors on a real-world business challenge from Southwest and Kohl’s. Before reaching our final destination, we will pitch our solutions to passengers who will vote for the best idea. Upon arrival, we will meet with representatives from Kohl’s to learn how the company strives to remain agile in the retail innovation world.
